Life: One Big Amusement Park

Welcome to 2012! I’m not going to write about resolutions. Instead I’m going to write about the possibilities the new year brings. Like the opportunity to join the fantastic writers of Downtown YA! I figure life beats you up enough, you don’t need to make a list of resolutions that you might not keep. No. When I see a new year on the horizon, I think of it as an all year pass to Disney World—or my current favorite amusement park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

I can’t wait to get out there and see what the new year brings. Life is always adding new rides. Sometimes there are no lines for your favorite ride and you can rush right on and have a blast. In fact, you can keep getting on and off until you make yourself sick. Then there are times when the lines are five hours long for every ride in the park. At these moments I could easily say screw it. I’m giving up and going home. Instead, I strike up a conversation with the person in front of me and the time flies. The next thing you know I’m riding the Dragon Challenge Coaster screaming my lungs out.

For me, life is just one big amusement park. And let me tell you when I decided to jump into the publishing world, I had no idea that I was signing up to be stuck on the biggest roller coaster of all. But I’m happy to say that every year that has gone by I’ve mastered bigger and bigger coasters. I find myself boarding an even bigger roller coaster this year—selling my pet YA project.

When I look up at the enormous set of rails that reach almost to the sky, all I can do is smile. Life is good. Last year I had a short story published in a wonderful anthology and landed an agent. This year I’ll land a deal. I look forward to riding the publishing world roller coaster with the wind in my hair and an occasional fly stuck in my teeth.

2012 bring it on!

Love, love, love it, Anne! New Year has always excited me. Not for the parties and the fireworks but because I see a clean slate. A fresh start.

Like you, I see it as a whole bag of possibilities.

2012 for me is going to be the Year of Organisation. I know, I know ... Boring... LOL. But I have a lot of books to write and contracts to fulfill. I need to keep up with my readers, travel and promote, and I also need to work and be with my family. That's a lot of balls in the air and the only way I'm going to make the most of all these wonderful opportunities is to be organised. So bring on 2012!

Okay, so technically, it's already been brought - but like you Anne, I'm ready and raring to get my teeth into it!

Great post, thanks for sharing!

What a lovely perspective! I would like to think of the new year in that same way -- as an adventure just waiting to be tasted! Thanks for the reminder...
